Equity & Diversity UWA
Equity and Diversity promotes and supports UWA's vision to provide an equitable and inclusive environment for all staff, students and the broader community we engage with. What's new ... The UWA Disability Access and Inclusion Action Plan (DAIAP) 2007-2011 proactively addresses the challenges of equitable access to educational, employment, cultural and sporting opportunities within our campus community for people with a disability. It creatively translates the requirements of the Commonwealth Disability Standards for Education 2004, the Western Australian Disability Services Act 1993 (amended 1999; 2004) and the Western Australian Equal Opportunity Act 1984 within a Western Australian tertiary education context, records the aspirations around the accommodation of people with a disability to which the University is committed, and identifies areas on which future developments should focus. The DAIAP is currently available in print, HTML, Word, PDF and audio-cassette formats. DAIAP 2007-2011 (Word) DAIAP 2007-2011 (RTF) DAIAP 2007-2011 (PDF) As a first step toward achieving long-lasting structural change and embedding cultural competence within the undergraduate curricular fabric, a generic, anti-racism project, Citizens of the Globe - In Tune With Difference, was created by Equity and Diversity with the assistance of a DIMA Living in Harmony grant. The final outcome of the Project, The UWA Citizens of the Globe Race and Cultural Diversity Resource Manual, extends the Project's theoretical framework with the aim of widening the conversation about how cultural competencies can be embedded in the higher education context and beyond. UWA's new publication, Parental Leave: a guide for UWA staff and supervisors, provides information about the University's generous leave provisons and other entitlements for staff who are, who are about to become, or are planning to become, parents. |
