Physical Access and Wayfinding Project

The Equity and Diversity Office has been actively engaged in a collaborative exercise to establish an appropriately planned and funded Physical Access and Wayfinding project.  The Physical Access and Wayfinding project aims to ensure that all areas of the campus will be accessible to all people.  The end result will be improved signage strategies, identifiable and accessible routes across campus, building upgrades, consistency across all way finding tools from maps to entires, parking zones, directional signage, landscaping etc.

Physical access and wayfinding are issues that affect all users of the University campus including visitors.  Many operational areas of the University including Public Affairs, University Theatres, Parking and Security, Safety and Health Office, Disability Office, Office of Development and the Office of Facilities Management are keenly interested in enhancing access and wayfinding for campus users and are involved in this project.

A Steering Committee and Working Party have been established and a Project Leader appointed.  In this initial stage of the project a comprehensive set of issues are being identified and a business case for the project will be presented to the Facilities Development Steering Group (FDSG) in December 2004, seeking support for the project and further direction.  In March 2005, based on the outcome of the FDSG deliberations, work will commence on the preparation of a suitable planning and funding model for funding approval by the FDSG.
