Gender Equity

Gender equity refers to the University’s commitment to ensuring that both women and men have the maximum opportunity to achieve their potential at UWA. The University has a number of policies in place, and actively pursues new initiatives, to meet this end and ensure a fair, empowered place to work and study.

UWA TRACK RECORD AND OUR CURRENT WORK

Achievement Relative to Oppurtunity

Several Group of Eight universities, including UWA, are moving forwards on 'Achievement Relative to Oppurtunity', an important issue as less and less careers follow a linear trajectory, and flexible work practices become more common. A core feature of this is ensuiring women who have needed to take on family responsibilities are not disadvantaged over the course of their career, however this initiative extends far further than this. For more information, you can read the Go8 Discussion paper.

Employer of Choice for Women

UWA has been named as an Employer of Choice for Women since 2002 when the Award was first offered nationally.

Other projects

Currently, the Equity office is working on Pay Equity, Sexual Harassment policy, and increasing career and promotion possibilities at UWA.
